The

The iPhone 5 is the current (latest) model. It's predecessors the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 4 are still available new and are very popular secondhand, as are the models before that (iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G) although these are now only available secondhand.

There are two ways to buy an iPhone - as part of a contract with a network such as Vodafone or O2 (either directly from the network or through as reseller such as Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4 U or Dial A Phone) or to buy it outright and buy your phone service/SIM card separately. In the USA, the iPhone 4 comes in two different versions - the original AT&T iPhone 4 and the new (February 2011) Verizon version of the iPhone 4.These phones have different chipsets inside because of the different technologies used by these two carriers (Verizon use CDMA and AT&T use GSM) and are therefore not interchangeable. Be careful if you import an iPhone from the US!
